Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric dentistry has several unique features that are related to the anatomical, physiological, and psychological characteristics of children. The physiological aspects concern both the overall body and the oral cavity.
Presentation
the Key Features of Pediatric Dentistry
A child’s oral cavity, teeth, and gums are still developing alongside the overall growth of the body. Children’s teeth are smaller and more closely spaced, which makes cleaning and treatment more challenging. Additionally, their tooth enamel is less mineralized, making the teeth more susceptible to cavities.
Prevention and early treatment. It is important to begin preventive dental visits in early childhood even before the eruption of baby teeth. This helps detect potential issues at an early stage and prevent their progression.
Pediatric anesthesia. When surgical or more complex procedures are needed, pediatric dentists must be experienced in child-specific anesthesia techniques to ensure the child’s safety and comfort during treatment.
